Renowned cookbook author and culinary instructor, Alamelu Vairavan offers cooking classes at Wisconsin Kitchen Mart


Alamelu Vairavan is a nationally known author and culinary expert. Wisconsin Kitchen Mart is proud to host her cooking class titled “Tantalizing Indian Flavors.”  Participants will explore, learn and taste the range of tantalizing flavors found in Indian cuisine. Plus, learn easy-to-prepare, soul satisfying dishes that unite the exquisite flavors of Indian cuisine with American comfort food. This program will transform even vegetable haters to vegetable lovers. Cooking classes are available for:

Alamelu Vairavan has co-authored, with Dr. Patricia Marquardt, two cookbooks on South Indian cooking:       
Art of South Indian Cooking (1997) and
                                    Healthy South Indian Cooking (2001, 2003, 2007)

She has also contributed several recipes to the American Dietetic Association cookbook, Cooking Healthy Across America (2004, John Wiley, N.Y.)

As a culinary instructor, Alamelu teaches the easy way to prepare and enjoy foods using legumes, spices and herbs.

Alamelu has been featured on numerous national and regional TV shows including appearances on PBS, Discovery Channel, Fox and CBS programs. Alamelu has also been featured in magazines and newspapers including the USA Today, Baltimore Sun, Philadelphia Enquirer, Los Angeles Times, Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Wisconsin Woman and India Today.

Alamelu has a passion for educating the public about the use of spices and legumes in preparing tasty and healthful foods. She also takes great interest in educating the public about the growing research that points to the enormous health benefits of spices in preventing many diseases.
